Sphero indi Code Mat & Literacy Cards

The Sphero indi Code Mat and Literacy Cards combine early language learning with creative, screen-free programming. The combination of a double-sided mat, extensive card set and accompanying teaching materials opens up a wide range of possibilities for language and logic learning with the Sphero indi robot – ideal for use in early education, language support and cross-curricular learning environments.

On the front of the mat, children discover the colourful world of indi Land. Eight themed learning locations – such as the ‘Character Cabins’ or the ‘Retelling Rollercoaster’ – are each assigned a language learning objective. Using colour tiles, learners navigate their indi robot to these stations to name character traits or understand sequences of actions, for example. The colour tiles serve as simple programming commands that indi translates into movements through colour recognition – such as driving straight ahead, turning or stopping. A Sphero indi robot and the corresponding colour tiles are required to use the mat (not included).

The back of the mat shows a neutral grid for individual tasks. In combination with the included letter and word cards, exercises for letter recognition, word formation or sentence construction can be designed – flexible for use in language development, English lessons or open learning. The included ideas and teaching suggestions are based on common educational standards (WIDA, CCSS) and can be adapted to different curricula.
